September 15th- October 14th, 2010

Opening Reception: Wednesday, September 15th from 6:00pm- 9:00pm

San Francisco, Ca. (August 25, 2010)—

Robert Berman / E6 gallery is pleased to exhibit select retrospective works by montage artist Winston Smith, who has created some of Punk Rock’s most lasting and iconic symbols.  This is Smith’s first major solo show at a commercial gallery in San Francisco since the turn of the century.

Included in this exhibition are works from his career spanning over 30 years – from Punk Rock to Armageddon.

Smith has created more than 50 album covers, including Green Day’s “Insomniac,” multiple Dead Kennedys records, one of George Carlin’s last comedy albums, an elaborate 4-panel insert for Ben Harper’s Both Sides of the Gun, and a gate-fold cover for Harper’s album entitled, White Lies for Dark Times (Virgin). Smith’s collage art has been featured in scores of magazines, including dozens of times in Playboy and Spin, as well as on the covers of The New Yorker, The Progressive, Adbusters, Utne Reader, and Maximum Rock & Roll. Most recently, in June 2010, Smith was interviewed by the largest music culture publication in Italy, XL Magazine.

Last Gasp of San Francisco has published three volumes of his montage art.
